The Ukrainian army is a national ground force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. The Ukrainian army traces its origins to the 1991 break-up of the Soviet Union, when it became the army of the newly independent Ukraine. The army was first formed on 24 December 1991, and its first unit, the Ukrainian Ground Forces, was created on the same day.

The Ukranian army is positioned throughout the country in order to protect its citizens and territory.

Where are the Ukrainian army?

The Ukrainian Ground Forces are the land forces of the Ukrainian Armed Forces. They were formed in 1992 after the collapse of the Soviet Union and are currently composed of approximately 198,000 soldiers. The Ground Forces are charged with the protection of Ukraine’s borders and territory, as well as with the conduct of land-based military operations.

The U.S. Army is set to train five Ukrainian soldiers on the Patriot air and missile defense system in 2022. The training will take place at Fort Sill, Oklahoma, and will include classroom work, hands-on training with the Patriot systems, and a simulation lab. The focus of the training will be on what the Ukrainians will need to know to operate the system effectively once they are back home.
