The United States Army is the land warfare service branch of the United States Armed Forces. It is one of the eight U.S. uniformed services, and is designated as the Army of the United States in the U.S. Constitution. As the oldest and most senior branch of the U.S. military in order of precedence, the modern U.S. Army has its roots in the Continental Army, which was formed to fight the American Revolutionary War (1775–1783).<\/p>\n

The Chinese army is the largest in the world, with over two million active soldiers. India, the United States, North Korea, and Russia have the next largest armies, with between one and two million soldiers each.<\/p>\n

The Army plans to maintain its personnel strength in FY 2022 at roughly the FY 2021 level. This includes both regular and reserve components. FY 2022 targets include: 485,000 in the regular Army, 336,000 in the National Guard, and 189,500 in the Army Reserve.<\/p>\n
