Since the end of the Cold War, the United States Army has maintained a presence in Poland as part of the overall American commitment to European security. The Army presence in Poland is part of the larger NATO mission to provide stability in Central and Eastern Europe. The units currently stationed in Poland are the 1st Armored Brigade Combat Team, 3rd Infantry Division, and the 12th Combat Aviation Brigade. These units are responsible for deterring Russian aggression and ensuring the security of Poland and its neighbors.

At this time, there are no U.S. Army units stationed in Poland.

What is the U.S. Army doing in Poland?

The presence of US troops in Poland is a clear signal to Russia that any attempt to invade a NATO country will be met with strong resistance. If Russia does manage to invade, the US and its NATO allies are prepared to defend every inch of NATO territory. This is a strong deterrent that will hopefully prevent any aggression from Russia.

Poland has been a strong ally of the United States, and we are committed to deepening our security and economic cooperation. As part of that commitment, we are considering the possibility of locating a permanent U.S. presence, known as “Fort Trump,” in Poland.
