Major General of the United States Army is the title given to the two most senior commissioned officers in the United States Army. They are responsible for the overall command of the Army.<\/p>\n

The title of General of the Armies (or General of the Army) is the highest possible rank that can be held by an officer in the United States Army. The rank is considered co-equal to that of Admiral of the Navy (now known as Fleet Admiral). The only two officers to have held this rank are John J. Pershing and George Washington.<\/p>\n

First, the President of the United States must nominate an officer for promotion to the next star. Then, the Senate must confirm the nomination. This process is not easy and it takes a lot of time, dedication, and hard work.<\/p>\n

A Major General is one of the highest-ranking officers in the Army, and is responsible for commanding a division-sized unit of 10,000 to 15,000 soldiers. A Major General can only be appointed through a stringent process of nomination and review by multiple offices and promotion boards.<\/p>\n
