There are many reasons why the Russian army may be perceived as being brutal. One reason is that the Russian military has a long history of using harsh methods to get information from prisoners. Additionally, the Russian military has been known to use torture and kidnappings as a way to terrorize and control the civilian population.<\/p>\n

The commanders’ aim is to keep the soldiers down there. The commanders know only violence and intimidation. But you cannot force people to fight. For some Russians, refusing to return to the front line may be a moral stand.<\/p>\n

The Russian military is in need of better leadership and education in order to be effective. The current leadership culture is dictatorial and relies on fear to maintain control.
