How big was Russia’s army in ww2?

The Red Army was one of the largest military forces in history, with up to 34 million soldiers serving during World War II. Of those, 8 million were from non-Slavic minorities. Officially, the Red Army lost 6,329,600 killed in action (KIA), 555,400 deaths by disease, and 4,559,000 missing in action (MIA) (most of whom were captured).

The Soviet Armed Forces were reduced by about 85 million men between 1945 and 1948. This demobilisation was controlled by increasing the number of military districts to 33, then reducing to 21 in 1946. These reductions were necessary due to the massive economic and social changes occurring in the Soviet Union at this time.
