Fortunately, it is possible for Canadians to enlist in the Army, and there are a few different ways to go about it. The most common way is to enlist through the Army National Guard, as this does not require U.S. citizenship. For those who do have U.S. citizenship, or who are willing to obtain it, the regular Army is an option. There are also a few Army Reserve units that accept Canadians.

Can Canadians apply to the US military?
You do not have to be a US citizen to enlist in the military, but you may have fewer options. If you are not a US citizen, you must:
1. Have a permanent resident card, also known as a Green Card
2. Currently live in the US.
The MAVNI pilot program is a great way for the military to recruit individuals with the skills and expertise that they are looking for. This program allows for up to 1,000 non-citizens who have been in the US legally for at least two years to be recruited into the military. These individuals must have medical skills or foreign language skills together with cultural expertise. This is a great opportunity for those who may not have permanent resident status but who have the skills and expertise that the military needs.
Can a Canadian join the US Marines
If you’re foreign-born and want to become a US Marine, you’ll need to enter the country legally, obtain resident alien status, and then visit a recruiter. The Marine Corps only takes those who do well on the Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery, so study thoroughly prior to taking it.
The Army accepts prior-service people who are US citizens or foreign nationals legally residing in the United States with an Immigration and Naturalization Service Alien Registration Card (“Green Card” — INS Form I-151/551). Applicants must speak, write and read English fluently.
How long is US Army basic training?

The Indian Army, Navy, and Air Force will be conducting a joint recruitment drive in 2023 for eligible candidates between the ages of 17 and 22 years.
